Calgary Game...
I am not sure what our Coaching staff was thinking this past Saturday, but whatever it was...I didn't like it!
Why in the world would you send Omark to the farm, and then sit Paajarvi as well?? I guess having dynamic, fast, and skilled forwards is not what this team needs right now. Which is kinda funny because after Eberle got injured, Hall who is all of the above, got 18 mins and 44 seconds of ice. And you and I both know that if Eberle hadn't got injured he would've seen the same.
Then yesterday they send Belle and O'Mara to the farm again. I get that Jim Vandermeer is ready to return, but why O'Mara? he was the only guy out there that was willing to hit anything. Renney's comments on Sunday were "he needs to learn to use his size and body more." I don't get it! O'Mara couldn't have done any more than he did on Saturday in this regard.
The other thing that I don't get...we had 17 shots all game. 9 of those were split between the first and second periods. Why were the coaches not getting these guys to shoot more? Our top offensive guys, Taylor Hall & Ales Hemsky had a shot each all game. Penner had two, Cogliano had two, and Gagner had two. To his credit, Kurtis Foster had three. You could see that the message just wasn't getting through, if the coaches were asking the player to shoot more. The last PP we had at the end of the game, was a six-on-four and we couldn't / didn't generate a shot! Not good enough.
Possible Call Up...
I read today that the Oilers are considering re-calling Omark from Oak City. This is a good idea if Eberle will be out for an extended period of time. But, if he sits in the press box, it will be a waste of a plane ticket. I hope if it happens, that Renney gives Omark as much of a chance as the other kids this time.
It Doesn't Get Any Easier...
We get the Red Wings at Rexall on Tuesday. This will show how weak our defense depth is. They will expose us on every level. Hopefully we will be able to play a little river hockey with them. But they can smell blood (points) and if thy're smart, they play a close checking game and be tight defensively and we will be on the outside looking in early. One things for sure...if we don't shoot the puck, it won't matter.
