Boston Wins!!
I really happy that Boston beat the Canucks last night 4-0! Several records were set by both teams and Tim Thomas alike. Tim Thomas set a record for most stops by a Goalie in a play-offs, Boston set a record for being the first team to win three game sevens to win a Stanley cup in history, and Vancouver set a record for fewest goals scored in a cup final.
I am thinking there was a little Karma at play here with the Canucks. As I wrote in my last post, there have been some silliness coming out of Vancouver from finger biting, to Luongo’s comments about Tim Thomas, and reports that the Canucks were trying to profit from the broadcasting contracts for the Stanley Cup parade long before they won it. Not to mention Nathan Horton brining some Boston Garden Ice to pour (in water form) on the Roger centre’s ice surface.
Tim Thomas was the only choice for the Con-Smythe in the play-offs this year, however the way Brad Marchand played in this series was worthy, if there was a trophy for the Cup series and not the whole play-offs.
Vancouver Loses!!
Not only did the Vancouver Canucks melt down on the ice last night, but the City melted down too after the game. On the ice we saw no effort from the Sedin’s (which I think is more a statement of how Boston played) to Luongo blowing that goal he could’ve fell forward on, to stop the momentum of the puck, to the frustrating cheap elbow to Chara’s head from a blind side hit.
But none of the above can compare to the idiocy that happened after the game. If you haven’t heard, the fans went nuts and rioted until well into the night. I knew this would happen no matter what the outcome of the game. I wrote in my last piece that Vancouver would prove that their fans suck when the city inevitably burns win or lose.
I have heard all the rhetoric about how “it’s not the fans, it’s the idiots.” Or “it’s professional anachists inciting violence.” Well I saw a lot Canuck jerseys burning, looting and assaulting people and cops alike. I knew it would happen, I know Canuck fans suck, but I was not pleased to see how far they would take it. In Edmonton there was some trouble during our cup run, but nothing in comparison to what we saw in Vancity last night.
Anyways…BRING ON THE FIRST OVER-ALL PICK ON THE 24TH
GO OILERS GO!!
