AM I BLIND...OR JUST BLINDED??

Listening in to the call-in shows today while on the road...I get the sense that everyone is seeing a dis-interested and un-caring Edmonton Oilers squad. 


I get that we have lost by 4 or more goals 5 times this month. I get that defensively we seem to be totally lost. And I get that we seem to have a few passengers at different points of games...but I don't see a team that doesn't care. I don't see a team that doesn't want to compete.


I have seen a team that looks broken, and possibly given up when the score is out of reach...But I have also witnessed 4 or 5 comebacks this year to get points we shouldn't have gotten. That's something we never could've done last year.


I have seen flashes of brilliance from a lot of different players at different times. In my opinion it's just a matter of time that is needed to teach consistency. 


We all know this team is not destined for the play-offs this year but, do we need to fix personnel? Do we need to make calls to the farm? Or do we let this season be what it will be. A last (or close to) place finish, that will net us a high draft pick again this year. 


Obviously there are some compete issues with this team! If we (the fans) constantly rip this team, and the Coaches start doing the same (insert Tom Renney's post game comments from last night here) and Bloggers like Robin Brownlee write articles like this...more regularly, what will this accomplish? More confidence? Motivation to play better? Or does it just add fuel to the fire? I don't know...I'm not a coach nor have I ever played. I just think this team is fragile right now.

I have called out players for poor performances this year myself. I guess I am getting tired of focusing on that negativity. I would love to write about how impressive this team, and town are great things. Instead of talking about how crappy we all feel.


Hopefully after all the talk, and coach's comments that we will see this week...players will start to figure it out. At least I hope that is the case.
