AUTOGRAPH SESSION AND OTHER RANDOM THOUGHTS

W.E.M. Not Good For Autographs...

I have said it before and I'll say it again West Edmonton Mall is the WORST place to hold the Oilers annual autograph session! A lot of people come out to this event and I understand that they need a venue large enough to accommodate, but the mall is so big that it makes it very difficult to make it through one line let alone two. They only seat a maximum of three players at a table, so you could be first in line at the table of your choice and that's all you might be able to get.

They also seat less popular players with popular ones. For example, Jim Vandermeer was sitting at the table with Jordan Eberle. I don't know about you...but I don't own anything with Jumbo's name on it. You feel kinda like a dick when you walk by a guy who is there to sign autographs and you say "no thanks Jim, I'm here for the rookie." So instead of that, I commented on the fight Vandermeer had the other night.

I look forward to the autograph session every year as my house is a shrine to the the Oilers and everything that hangs in it, is signed by players. Whether I get the signatures my self or not. It is becoming tedious to waste an entire day for two or three signatures though. Hopefully they will go back to Kingsway Mall or do it at Rexall next year as I have heard this is the last year they are committed to W.E.M. for this event.

Souray Update...

Sheldon cleared waivers today. Tom Renney said that he was surprised by that news. He also said that he would've taken a run at him, if he was another team as Souray has a lot of tools to help a team out.

Apparently...according to the CBA, Souray had to fly into Edmonton to make this waiver thing happen. He will now be re-assigned back to Hershey for the remainder of the season and my guess is the Oilers will buy out the rest of his contract if they can't trade him after the draft. But since Renney said he'ds take a run at him, and we all know that Souray is exactly what the Oilers need...maybe the team and the player can patch things up in the off season. Somehow I doubt it, but I would like to see that happen.

Taylor Chorney was not allowed to travel with the team to Minnesota today as Souray is "officially" on the roster. This is also some sort of CBA non-sense. He wasn't able to practice or skate with the team either, and once Souray clears on the way back down tomorrow...Chorney will be re-activated and play in Minny.

GO Oilers GO!
