As a dedicated fan of this team, I will go to the games and I will watch. But, I wish there were some relevance to this season other than a draft pick and some development. I get we are re-building, blah blah blah... but this being the 5th season out of the play-offs and it's tough to be optimistic at this point.
I will say that the play on the ice has been way better than last year in terms of excitement, skill, & speed! That does make it easier to look forward to going to the rink than this time last year!
Must Be Tough for a Coach...
Being that a fan like me feels this way watching this team...I wonder how hard it would be for Tom Renney to show up at the rink everyday and try to be "up!"
Think how tough it would be to mask how you are truly feeling all the time just so others can't see it. I don't know how Tom feels...and I can't speak for him, I am assuming that he must be a little frustrated and a little anxious knowing that if he doesn't handle this properly, his job is on the line.
Wouldn't that suck if you develop these kids and put in the time to watch this team struggle in the win / loss column, only to hand a better, more able to compete team to your successor and not get a chance to watch it succeed.
Looking Forward...
I've heard some pundit types talking about how this team should be able to compete for a play-off spot next year. I hope their right! Because I don't see it yet. I guess we'll have to wait the moves that are made between now and the start of camp in September. Along with who they draft this year, and who might make the team out our draft class last year.
I don't want to be pessimistic...but in my mind the 3-5 year plan is more likely. I don't mean competeing for a cup, I mean to get in the play-offs. Hopefully I'm wrong!
Go Devils Go!
