Good News All-Around

NIKOLAI KHABIBULIN

So we lost the game on Friday night to the Red Wings 3-1. But Khabibulin had a great save in this game, check it out...

That was an amazing save! Against the Blackhawks last night, Khabibulin had another all world performance and in my mind won us the game in the third period. Here's the link to the unbelievable two saves that he made in the third, this is what won us the game.

If there was any trepidation about Nikolai's back health...I think he has proven that he's healthy.

THE DETROIT GAME

As I was hosting some clients at the game on Friday night, I was not able to watch much of the game. so I do not have much to say about it other than the above performance by our goal tending. I will say that we took 7 penalties and only allowed 1 PP goal. that's a much improved performance for our PK.

Taylor Hall's goal was nice on the PP. Assisted by Horcoff & Foster.

THE CHICAGO GAME

Our penalty killing has finally started to turn around (I hope). We took 4 penalties and didn't allow the powerful Hawks PP to score. That was really nice to see. After a good game for the PK on Friday, the penalty kill managed to shut-down the opposition.

The rookies looked phenomenal again last night. Taylor Hall made a disgustingly sick pass to his teammate (I believe it was Gagner) through traffic in front of the net while he was tripped up and flying  through the air! The pass was right on the tape of the recipients stick.

Hall also hit a post on a beauty shot that was set-up by Hemsky. Paajarvi looked dangerous all night long. This kid is not afraid to go 1 on 2 carrying the puck to the net. He'll drive wide and cut in center, or he'll try and split the defencemen. He's fearless. Eberle was doing his thing last night too. setting up plays, being defensively responsible, and having great vision with the puck.

Stortini tried to fire the guys up by taking on John Scott. Scott is 6' 8" tall and about 260 llbs. Stortini didn't fare well...but he tried and that's what matters. to go up against a behemoth like Scott...good on ya Storts!

LINUS OMARK...

So if you read this blog regularly, you'll know that I was upset that Omark got sent to the AHL from training camp this year. Well, I'm happy to report that he is making me look good by playing well in Oak City. Last night he scored 5 goals in the game with the 5th tying the game at 6-6. The game goes to a shoot-out...and he gets another to help lift the team to victory! You can check out his work at the Oilers home page here

Our next game is in Carolina on tomorrow night in Carolina. I hope we can keep the special teams rolling and start a bit of a streak here.

GO Oilers GO!
