GOOD GOALTENDING

I understand that a team has a desire to win no matter what the circumstances. So I can understand the reasoning to put Martin Gerber in net last night. Gerber has played very well, and has definitely earned the right to start some games, but...

With the re-build this year, and the mantra from management about player development and culture change, I'm wondering why Devan Dubnyk is not getting every start while Khabibulin is out with an injury, except maybe on back-to-back nights.

It seems that this "development" plan that the Oilers have extends to the farm as well. Oaklahoma City Barons have played 22 games thus far. Gerber has 13 starts, Deslauriers has 7, and Bryan Pitton only has 2. Deslauriers seems to be the odd man in this organization. So my question is, why not play him and "showcase" him a little more to see if you can get a team to show some interest in him. Not to mention, more time on the ice will help with his development. And if their not going to develop or showcase him, then let the kid, Pitton play and start developing him. This way we may have a home-grown back-up when Dubnyk takes the reins in Edmonton.

We all know that Gerber is not a long term plan for the Oilers. So why is he playing so much in Oaklahoma City and now getting 2 starts in 6 games without Khabibulin? I say, let Dubnyk play no matter what and see what he can do.

With Khabibulin practicing again and feeling better...

Dubnyk needs to get as many games as possible. But Kabby's numbers aren't that good either, so maybe he could start getting a 1 & 1A type rotation.

I haven't seen any updates yet on who will start in Montreal on Wednesday yet, but it will be interesting to see what approach the Oilers take on their starter.

Last Night's Game...

Oilers win 4-1

Nice to see Cog's and Brule starting to gel and getting points. Gerber played well as mentioned above, and is now a perfect 2-0-0 in two starts with a .950 SV%. Some media types have suggested that Brule and Cogs are getting done as they now have Penner on their wing. Hopefully that is the reason as Penner needs to find some confidence!

GO Oilers GO!
