POST HOLIDAY WISHES

Happy Holidays...

With the holidays being so busy, the realoilfan's household is no different. With all that there was to do, to pull Christmas off, I took a break from posting here. But, I do want to say to all the readers that I hope your Christmas was good and have a happy New Year!

World Juniors Game 1...

I, like most other Canadian hockey fans, sat on the couch on boxing day avoiding the dreaded sales, and watched the World Juniors. Canada played the Russians in game 1. It was a very exciting game too!

The two teams traded goals to keep it tied at 3-3, and then in the third period we took over and made it a 6-3 victory. There were some big hits in this game by both teams. there were some nice goals, and it was quite an exciting opening to the tournament.

I wanted to watch the Oiler prospects in this game. Olivier Roy got the start in net, so I was able to see what our future in net looks like. I wouldn't say he played poorly, but I hope that wasn't his "A" game. He let in at least one very soft goal, that in my opinion was quite stoppable. I was also hoping to see Sean Couturier have a good game as he is a highly touted prospect for the upcoming 2011 draft and someone I'm sure the Oilers are scouting quite throughly. He didn't play that well and looked like he had his ice-time reduced because of it.

Canuck Game Last Night...

We played well against the Canucks last night. I thought we were able to keep up to their skilled guys. We did get caught running around in our own end which cost us a goal, but we all know that our Defense is the weakest part of this team.

Our PK looked a million times better last night than I've seen it in a long time. We also managed to win some key face-offs against one of the best face-off teams in the league.

Khabibulin had a good game too. He made some big stops to keep the Oilers in the game. We just didn't get the bounces needed to pull out the victory.

Whitney got his second of the year, let's hope that the flood gate of goals has now opened for him!

O'Mara got his first NHL goal last night which was very cool. He's looked much better IMO in the last couple of games. it was a nice goal for sure, one he can be proud of...

After a hard fought third period, the Knuckleheads scored twice to win the game 3-2. The winning goal was scored with only 24 seconds left in the third. I will say that the Canucks first goal was nice by Jeff Tambellini. I'm sure his dad Steve was proud, and was happy to get that little xmas gift. Even if we didn't get the win.

Next Game...

We play the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday at home. Hopefully we will see Dubnyk get another start in goal. Not because Khabibulin shouldn't start, but because Dubnyk needs to play alot this year. And Dubnyk has played well.

GO Oilers GO!
